Ombra Mai Fu premiered at The Place, London, and draws inspiration from Handel’s opera Xerse, where the shade of a tree symbolizes peace and protection. The piece explores the journey of stepping out of one’s comfort zone — an evocative passage from darkness to light. Referencing Aeschylus’ Oresteia, it follows a figure haunted by inner voices and ancestral guilt who seeks redemption and renewal. Movement unfolds through contrasts of tension and release, shadow and illumination, accompanied by an original score by David Westcott, who deconstructs and reimagines Handel’s aria into a final moment of catharsis.
